‘It’s a neon sign that says ‘It’s Britney Bitch’. And it is. It’s Britney. And she’s so bright. Like an angel. Like an angel with glitter in her veins. Some girls are lucky like that. I just have dirt under my fingernails from digging.”
A former teen pop star dead in a bathtub, a gogo dancing time travelling angel and ingénue who would do anything to be famous. Trash Angel is a solo show with backup dancers: a collision of high philosophy and low art, filtered through queer culture, pop culture, and club culture. Inspired by Walter Benjamin’s “Angel of History,” (from ‘On the Concept of History), this show is part cabaret, part epic poem, part thriller murder mystery and part fever dream music video.

DANCING THROUGH A MIDLIFE CRISIS
Role: Co-Creator & Dancer
Co-Created with Barbara English (Director) and Deanna Witwer (Dancer)
Status: In development
Three artists in their early forties, investigate the lived realities of being mid-career dance artists and asks how artistic practice evolves alongside changing identities, responsibilities, and life structures. It is research as practice, investigating the possibilities and challenges of creating in mid-life through the act of making together. The project imagines a utopian space where multiple lived realities coexist, where the contradictions, complexities, and hard-won lessons of adulthood are not smoothed over, but held together as sources of connection and creative possibility. Combining dance, storytelling, design, and autobiographical material, the work will reflect experiences of midlife that are both deeply shared and highly personal.
Supported by Calgary Arts Development Authority Project Grant.

GLITTERBOMB DANCERS

Role: Creative Producer and Director
Status: Ongoing Project, started in 2021
Glitterbomb Dancers is a Yorkshire-based ensemble of recently graduated dancers from a range of underrepresented backgrounds. The company’s distinctive approach brings together contemporary dance and traditional working-class cabaret, creating work that sits between art and entertainment. Glitterbomb Dancers creates bold, accessible work that challenges the boundaries between dance, cabaret and popular entertainment. The company draws on the energy, humour and theatricality of working-class cabaret while combining it with contemporary dance practices and the skills of emerging professional dancers. A key aim of the project is to support emerging artists to start and sustain careers in the arts and culture sector, while creating opportunities for dancers whose backgrounds and experiences are often underrepresented within the industry. The company makes work for a range of settings, from short-from pieces for cabaret, clubs and festivals to longer, full-length works, as well as collaborations with artists such as drag legend David Hoyle, Emilyn Claid and Azara Meghie. Glitterbomb Dancers have opened for a number of Drag Race queens including Jinxx Monsoon, The Vivienne, Cheryl Hole and Baga Chips.
Glitterbomb Dancers have been presented and supported by: Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Arts Council England, Leeds Inspired, Old Woollen, Duckie, EnableUs Sheffield, Clams in their Eyes, Happy Valley Pride, Curious Festival, Harrogate Theatre, Dukes Theatre, Manchester International Festival/Aviva Studios.

An immersive performance that revived the hyperreal: a copy of a copy of a copy in which the original had been lost… or perhaps had never existed to begin with. A disco fever dream where anything could happen and nothing was real. But it was real. But it wasn’t real, was it? That’s hot. Cancelled.
Developed and presented by the Northern School of Contemporary Dance at Centre for Live Art Yorkshire.
